Our Blood Donor Dogs - Past & Present
Throughout the years Brack Animal Hospital has had a blood donor dog available for patients in need of a blood transfusion. These special dogs are owned by staff members who generously allow their pets to donate blood. All blood donor dogs must be blood typed to ensure that they are universal donors and must be well behaved/calm to allow for the blood collection which takes approximately 45 minutes. They also are screened for many different diseases and conditions each year to ensure that they are healthy and suitable for donation. Since beginning our blood donor program, our dogs have donated over 40 times and saved numerous lives.
A special thanks to all of our blood donor dogs and their owners. They have helped save the lives of so many dogs! The following is a tribute to both our current donor dog and those that have passed on.

Wallace

|
Wallace was another human-like Golden Retriever who was also family to one of our veterinary technicians Deanna Lauzon. He was a remarkable dog that knew when he had a job to do. He would lay on the table motionless until the technicians were finished collecting his blood, then he would wag his tail until he got his treat. Wallace was able to donate 12 times in his short 7 years of life. He is missed by all who knew and loved him. He is forever in our hearts and was a life saver to many. |
